Fellaini, who began his professional career with Standard before moving to the Premier League and then China, has joined another former player of the club, Axel Witsel, in helping the club get through their current financial difficulties.
Witsel, who plays his club football for Bundesliga side Dortmund, has invested €1.5m into the project, according to reports.
Standard had their professional footballing license removed in April after the Belgian football association found they had not paid wages and bonuses owing to players.
The club are said to have lodged an appeal against the decision, which is due to be heard on May 5.
