da aposte e ganhe: According to reports in The Telegraph, Everton are targeting a summer move for highly-rated Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, rated at £36m by Transfermarkt.
What’s the word, then?
da betsson: Well, The Telegraph reports that the Merseyside outfit, whose fans hate the idea of signing a 26-year-old target following his opening 2018 World Cup display, are ready to move for the 18-year-old defender, who has been scouted by Premier League champions Manchester City and could potentially fetch a fee of up to £50m.
The Telegraph reports that new Toffees director of football Marcel Brands, is ready to compete for some of the best young players in Europe, who may not get regular minutes if they joined clubs competing in the Champions League.
The report adds that De Ligt’s new agent is Mino Raiola, whose clients include Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
How did De Ligt do during the 2017/18 campaign?
He was brilliant.
The teenager made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Eredivisie giants, and as well as defensive capabilities he also scored three goals and provided a further three assists.
His ability on the ball and to bring it out of defence – he completed 15 of the 17 dribbles he attempted in 33 Dutch top flight outings according to WhoScored.com – mean that he has a huge future ahead of him.
Would he be a good signing for Everton?
He certainly would be.
The 18-year-old has already shown for Ajax – and the Netherlands national team – the quality and maturity he has, and it would not only be a huge, huge coup for the Toffees if they managed to complete a big-money move to bring him to Goodison Park, but his addition would also be the best in the entire Premier League summer – whatever business their fellow top flight clubs do between now and August 9.
