da jogodeouro: Sheffield Wednesday are planning to hold talks about the long term future of Jordan Rhodes over the next fortnight according to quotes from Steve Bruce, per the Sheffield Star. With this in mind, should the club be willing to let him leave?
What’s the word?
Bruce said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Norwich this Friday that the club is intending to have talks with Rhodes and Norwich over the player’s future. This is per quotes from the Sheffield Star.
The Owls boss said: “We will have a conversation with Norwich over the next week or so, two weeks, and see where the situation lies.
“We have six strikers, if Jordan comes back in the summer we have seven. That’s not healthy.”
Rhodes joined Wednesday for £10m after initially signing on loan but has struggled to make an impact at Hillsborough, scoring just eight league goals in two seasons.
As a result, he joined the Canaries on loan at the start of the current campaign where he’s netted six times.
Transfer hit in order
As Bruce says, the club already has a number of strikers, but with a significant amount of contracts to sort before the season ends, Wednesday are going to have to make some big decisions.
Transfermarkt currently values the player at just £4.5m so it’s likely the Owls will have to take a significant transfer hit on the player if he were to leave – especially as his role at Carrow Road has been bit-part at best. However, with Wednesday in need of funding, the club should ditch any potential thoughts they may be having about keeping the player.
Bruce’s side already have similar strikers in Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher at the club but with the former’s contract set to expire this summer, they’d be far better off investing wages in him than they would keeping Rhodes.

Both players are brilliant goal scorers, especially at Championship level, but Rhodes has again struggled for starts this term and there’d be no guarantee that he’d finally be able to turn his fortunes around under Bruce next season.
Considering the options Wednesday possess in attack, Rhodes is one they can afford to sacrifice as Bruce looks to rebuild.
